I used a 5mm crochet hook and 8 ply acrylic yarn double to do the coloured squares, and then crocheted around them in a single strand of 12 ply acrylic (still using the 5mm hook). After sewing up the blanket I crocheted an edge around it using a 3.5mm hook and cream 4 ply nylon yarn used double.

It was a good way to use up some of my left over bits and pieces of yarn :o)

Thank you for your kind comments Maria and Tonya. I'm extra pleased with it because it was made using scraps and so was very economical.
