"As a single footstep will not make a path on earth,
so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind.
To make a deep physical path,
we walk again and again.
To make a deep mental path,
we must think over and over the kind of thoughts
we wish to dominate our lives."
-Henry David Thoreau
It is so true that what we meditate on will influence us tremendously, but I'm not sure I'm in favor of trying to control it to the extent that Thoreau seems to advocate; rather, to fill one's mind with the good, the true, the beautiful and prayerfully let the spirit of God lead one. You know?
ReplyDeleteBut isn't what you said, what he is saying?
DeleteTo fill our mind with the thoughts (i.e. good, true, beautiful, positive, etc) that we want to dominate in our lives. And I think IF our mind is full of such thoughts, then we WILL be open to the Spirit of God. xx
