No words

To describe how good this book was...

Ok...well maybe just a few 'don't' words...

Don't stop reading because there are a lot of characters introduced early in the book (it gets easier)

Don't read the reviews (go into it with no preconceived ideas or opinions)

Don't ever not stand up for what is right

But if you read it...do let me know what you think

Rudderless

No...not me.  Although...

It's the title of this movie I watched recently...

A good one.  Really good!  Something for everyone...intensity...laugh out loud moments...and great music!! (and just a warning...a couple of  swear words)

But...so, so good...  You can watch the trailer  HERE

Sunday in the south

Pouring with rain this morning.  It has cleared a bit now, but the sky is still looking rather ominous...

A bit over the macadamia and ginger shortbread, so made rock cakes...

Here's the recipe...

Plenty to be going on with...

Browsing the latest Australian Country Style mag

Knitting more beanies for Bec

Reading BearTown by Fredrik Backman

I read his a Man Called Ove a few years ago and enjoyed it, and this one is also proving good...once I can remember who all the characters are.  Not the book's fault, but my memory :))

Time for a cup of tea and a rock cake!

Movie night in down town Deloraine

Last Saturday night was the monthly Film Society movie in the Deloraine Little Theatre...
starting to fill up

The movie was Hidden Figures...

Which turned out to be surprisingly good.  Except...for some reason, they had English subtitles for an English movie???  Maybe someone in the theatre had requested it.

Anyway...it was a bit disconcerting, because I didn't know whether to read or listen!  I tried just listening, but my eyes kept going to the words, so in the end...just went with that, and 'read' the movie.  Still good!

Rain today, so a good time to...

Bake...
feeding the addiction...more ginger and macadamia shortbread

Read and knit...
 beanies for Bec's shop

Listen...
Leonard's latest...and as good as ever

Keeping busy and staying warm

Road Trip - the Destination

The previous post covers our drive to Stanley.

This is what we enjoyed when we got there...

Godfrey's Beach - the east facing beach...
1.1 km long

The other end of Godfrey's Beach...
protected from the strong westerly winds

A local resident...
 keeping an eye on things

Now at Tatlow's Beach...
on the southern side of The Nut

Wade in the water...

We walked...
 Tatlow's Beach is 4.5km long

Oyster shell...
 minus the oyster...and pearl

Looking back to The Nut...

And just because...
 I love the colours...

One last look...
...till next visit

We had fish and chips for lunch...
freshly caught by the local fishermen

And do you know the movie The Light Between Oceans?

The town scenes were filmed in Stanley!

Goodbye Stanley...till next time...

And did you notice what was missing?

PEOPLE!!

YAY :)))

Love...love...love...that place!!

Road Trip - the Journey

Took a road trip with Ben and Hayley yesterday.  Left here early and headed along the north west coast...
not looking too promising

But turned out to be a beautiful day...
out the back of Burnie

And on to Fernglade Reserve...

There are a couple of short bushwalks you can do, but we were keen to get on the road, so will save those for another day...

And apparently it is a hot spot for platypus, but as I see them quite often in the Meander River here in Deloraine, why go all the way to Burnie to see them :))...

A photo stop at Table Cape.  Looking west along the coast to the small beachside town at Boat Harbour, then on to Rocky Cape...
And if you look between the dip in the last two hills in the distance on the right, you can see The Nut at Stanley...where we were headed

To be continued....

How could I resist a face like that!!!

2 CDs, 31 songs and only $10!

I've been playing it non stop since I got home :))

Weekend Words

Came across these quotes from Leonard Cohen recently...

"My mind was always very cluttered, so I took great pains to simplify my environment, because if my environment were half as cluttered as my mind, I wouldn't be able to make it from room to room"
(Ha!  sounds like my mind!!  Obviously an introvert!)

"We're in a world where there's famine and hunger and people are dodging bullets and having their nails pulled out in dungeons so it's very hard for me to place any high value on the work that I do to write a song. Yeah, I work hard but compared to what?"

'There are writers who are great visionaries, who can depict huge movements - things like that. They're the great writers. I'm just the other kind."

"If I knew where the good songs came from, I'd go there more often."

"The older I get, the surer I am that I'm not running the show."

"Journalists, especially English journalists, were very cruel to me. They said I only knew three chords when I knew five!"

"Songs seem to take me a long time. I don't know why; they're not especially excellent for taking so long."

I like the way his mind 'thinks'...

And because I'm in Leonard listening mode, and enjoying his Greatest Hits CD, here's one of my favourites....

And as a reminder to self...

A beautiful sunny autumn day here, so I really enjoyed my walk to and from church this morning.

A time of thoughtful reflection...

May you find some time to just 'be'...
