Weekend Words

5.30am...today

We ask and are answered not,
And so we say, God has forgot,
Or else, there is no God.

The years
Roll back and through a mist of tears,
I see a child turn from her play,
And seek with eager feet, the way
That led her to her father’s knee.

“If God is wise and kind,” said she,
“Why did He let my roses die?”
A moment’s pause, a smile, a sigh,
And then, “I do not know my dear,
Some questions are not answered here.”

“But is it wrong to ask?” “Not so,
My child; that we should seek to know
Proves right to know, beyond a doubt;
And some day we shall yet find out
Why roses die.”

And then I wait,
Sure of my answer, soon or late;
Secure that love doth hold for me
The key to life’s great mystery;
And oh, so glad to leave it there,
tho’ my dead roses were so fair.

Miscellany

My friend Brenda, who is an artist, sent me this...
 pretty good...n'est-ce pas!

Here's what she did (in her words):

"I painted a piece of mat board with acrylic clear glaze medium, and when dry, stuck on the feathers and leaves and dried flower heads with clear drying craft glue.

When this was dry I applied a further coat of acrylic clear glaze  over the lot.

I then painted /dabbed  the 3 colours of  acrylic paint on , when dry I added  the pearlescent ink,   I added a small amount of gold as highlighter".

Now I need to decide on a frame.

Listening to Hayden...
 good stuff

If you thought Gregory Alan Isakov was laid back, Hayden is laid back x 2.  You can listen to a sample of the tracks HERE (you'll need to scroll down a bit).

And watched Stonemouth (from the library) last night...
Really enjoyed it

Love the opening song by Cam Penner.  Listen to it HERE.

In music mode

A dweller on the threshold...

In the words of Van Morrison...

"I'm a dweller on the threshold
And I'm waiting at the door..."

The door of another new year.  I'm feeling positive as to what it may bring.  I hope you are too!

Here's a bit of a catch up:

Finished the 'bright' blanket...

Just did a few rows of cream and an orange edging to finish it off...
Will probably put it in one of the local shops on consignment come autumn

Listening to laid back Gregory Alan Isakov...

Also finished a small baby blanket for one of the charities I knit/crochet for...
a good way to use up small amounts of various yarns

Still reading an Ann Cleeves book...

And have just ordered from Book Depository the final Henning Mankell book because I read a review on it and it sounds good:

"Henning Mankell's last novel about an aging man whose quiet, solitary life on an isolated island off the coast of Sweden is turned upside down when his house catches fire".

How could I not want to read it with words like:  quiet, solitary, isolate, island, coast, Sweden...

Will conveniently ignore the 'aging' bit.

May your day, year, life be all that you wish for...and more...

Into The Mystic...

aka  Happy New Year!!

Meander River

Thomas Merton:

My Lord God,
I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
nor do I really know myself,
and the fact that I think I am following your will
does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you
does in fact please you.
And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road,
though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore will I trust you always though
I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me,
and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Nicholaus Ludwig Zinzendorf?

1. He leads us on by paths we did not know.
Upward He leads us, tho' our steps be slow;
Tho' oft we faint and falter on the way,
Tho' storms and darkness oft obscure the day,
Yet, when the clouds are gone,
We know He leads us on.

2. He leads us on thro' all the' un-quiet years;
Past all our dream-land hopes, and doubts, and fears
He guides our steps; thro' all the tangled maze
Of losses, sorrows, and o'er-clouded days
We know His will is done,
And still He leads us on.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future"

May 2018 be a year of new beginnings and adventures on this road called 'life'...

Getting it together...

...over coffee, sourdough and a new mag...

 care to join me?

...in the kitchen...
 banana and walnut loaf

...stitching it up...
decided to leave it as is...with cream as final row

And...

Oh...and in case you missed it...I changed my header photo!  I loved my foggy pic, but it is summer here, so I thought I'd better acknowledge it.

Roll on autumn!!

And Afterwards

It's all over now (baby blue)...

Getting back to routine:
Walk/run - check
Exercises - check
Shower - check
Breakfast - check
Grass Dandelions mowed - check
Coffee - check

Just finished reading Lagom, really enjoyed it, and found myself smiling...
(the coffee and Castello Blue on sourdough I was also enjoying at the time could have had something to do with it)

Still working on the 'colourful' blanket...
Added a row of cream around each square.  Still too bright!  Hmm.

Reading an Ann Cleeves book (from the Vera series)...
Listening to: Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Ros and Bon Iver

And...yesterday we went to the sea...
 East Devonport

 walked in the water

sunlight on sand

just because

Watched a cargo ship go out...

And to finish.  Your bit of humour for the day...

Marnie sent me this
She has a cat
So she knows

The Christmas Walk

After lunch (roast turkey and vegies) Marnie, Denver, Crazy Dog and I went for a walk.  We walked 'the wild side'...away from the river paths and caravan park...and people...

Marnie, Denver and Crazy Dog

 Denver...doing what boys do

bored yet?

Then we came home for dessert...Pavlova.

So that was Christmas.

You northern hemisphere folk have still got it to look forward to.

Enjoy!
