Weekend Words

When We Need Him the Most - Joyce Meyer

Proverbs 3:5-6 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

Many times we say that we trust God, but inside we still have deeply embedded fears that He won't really come through for us when we need Him the most.  So we falsely assume that if we keep thinking about the problem and worrying about it enough, then somehow we can take care of it on our own - just in case God doesn't show up and do something according to our timetable.

The problem with this attitude is that it brings us closer to our problems, not closer to God.  However, when we choose to believe that God is in control and that He is going to handle whatever situation we are in, we move closer to God and our problems don't seem so worrisome after all.

Trusting God will keep you from reasoning and trying to figure out the things you don't have answers for yet.  When you are faced with an overwhelming situation, don't listen to that nagging voice inside, asking, What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do?  Just remind yourself,  I'm going to trust God, and He will show me what to do...if I need to do anything.

Hold your peace, remain at rest, and God will fight for you.

Interestingly, when I read the words "God will fight for you", I had the thought (a God prompt perhaps?) that maybe there was a song with those words.  So after a bit of a YouTube search, I found this...

Enjoy!

  1. My mother used to really like Joyce Meyer. She seemed a lot more normal than many of these television preachers.

  2. A lot of what she has to say is good. I've read quite a few of her books. But I would rather read her, than listen to, or watch her :) xx
